Alexander Ovechkin Hat Trick vs. Pittsburgh Penguins (Game 2 Stanley Cup Playoffs 2009)
Alex Ovechkin's first playoff hat trick was cause for celebration, worthy of so many red caps that Sidney Crosby wanted fans to be told to stop throwing them. Minutes later, Crosby notched his first post-season hat trick, a consolation prize in a loss. Less than a half-dozen pieces of headgear made it to the ice. It was a historic night for the NHL. Its two biggest stars - rivals who don't care for each other - had their biggest playoff performances head-to-head. Ovechkin claimed the winning hand, breaking a tie with a pair of goals less than three minutes apart in the third period Monday night in the Washington Capitals' 4-3 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins.

stfu with the canada v russia game already,nabokov FKD up hard…say OV choked?wtv,crosby was unheard of also.. now compare the Dmen in both squads,notice a MAJOR difference?..wtf would crosby have done up against those D pairings?FK ALL..its only normal to be shut down when youre the oppositions main scoring weapon,all eyes on you.. and as for pens-caps..u fluked 2 OT wins in last years playoffs,season series vs caps ur 0-3..vs devils ur 0-6..u cant compete with the east’s top teams..good luck

Let me educate you, wave22689. Fleury didn’t play even one second of the Olympics, so quit thinking you are a know-it-all. Crosby is the only one who EARNED a Stanley Cup and a Gold Medal in the space of the last 10 months. Ok? Do I have that covered now or will a desperate little man like you find some other technicality? Crosby got 7th place in scoring, and he also got the golden goal and a shootout goal. And so Canada gets a gold medal. Ovechkin CHOKED. The proof is in reality, bye bye

What was he supposed to morph into that game a minute cruncher? There was a HUGE difference between Canada’s and Russia’s defense.
umm im an ovechkin fan but…. ovechkin hasnt back checked in 4 years hes not a complete player but he is the most dominant goal scorer possibly of all time
Last time I checked, which was right now, Ovechkin has a way better Plus/Minus and MORE POINTS. So, he actually is more of a complete player. He also plays defense and wins faceoffs. Plus, he actually scores on shots, not on little tap ins of the post! Way better job in the shootout.
Good comment, and the reason Canada won the gold medal is because Crosby was able to morph and play the way his team needed him to and Ovechkin remained he true selfish, showoff self. Great players are able to play the way the coaches ask them to. This is why Crosby is the only player in the last 10 months to win a Gold medal at the Olympics and a Stanley Cup.

They will meet in the playoffs unless the Caps get beat in the first round. Caps are being investigated for steroids so they have all gone off them, Ovechkin included. They even lost to a weak team last night. They are finished, Penguins will repeat easily this year!
